Full Version: Problem starting Studio
Omnivex Forums > Software > Moxie

Afternoon all,

started moxie this afternoon to be confronted by this...

There appears to be no way round it. I've uninstalled Moxie, uninstalled the MSMQ functionality, restarting and all those things. Manually filling in the information about the client and the server doesn't work, it just hangs searching for it.

Other clients are working fine. The only change I've made to the machine is to install Microsoft SQL management studio.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks,

Tom

When those fields are not populated automatically it's normally due to the agent service not running. Check that out and let us know.

Nope - already tried that. I've restarted my box, and the services seemed to come up fine. Manually stopping and starting didn't make any difference either.

Tom,

If your MSMQ service and Moxie services are running, you should be populating these fields. The fact that Microsoft SQL Management Console was recently installed on this machine merits some looking into. I will check with our team to see if there are any known issues with Microsoft SQL Management Console.

Is it possible to uninstall Microsoft SQL Management Console on your end (albeit temporarily) in order to determine if the addition of this software is causing the issue?

Much appreciated.

Hi Tom,

I have another suggestion that may be helpful. We've run into this issue on another computer recently (or at least one with similar symptoms) and the problem was caused by a bad SQL CE installation. Can you check to see which private queues have been created and whether the Agent's database exists?

If the Agent is having issues due to problems with SQL CE, you'll likely only see the "omnivex.local.n" queue in the Message Queuing > Private Queues folder (depending on your OS this is found in different places under Computer Management). You will also find that the "Backbone.sdf" file will not exist in the Agent's data folder:

Windows XP/Server 2003 default
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Omnivex\Moxie\Drive C\Program Files\Omnivex\Moxie\Agent\Agent

Windows Vista/Server 2008/7 default
C:\ProgramData\Omnivex\Moxie\Drive C\Program Files\Omnivex\Moxie\Agent\Agent

Please let me know what you find. If your system has these two symptoms related to the queues and the database then I should be able to help resolve this by repairing the SQL CE configuration on the server (which is actually a lot easier than it sounds). Thanks.
