AccuWeather® and Omnivex™ Partner to Distribute Advanced Digital Signage Displays
STATE COLLEGE, PA – January 23, 2006 – AccuWeather, Inc. announced today that Omnivex Corporation has licensed AccuWeather's news, sports
and weather content for redistribution on digital signage networks worldwide. The AccuWeather content functions as a powerful tool to
draw viewers and reduce perceived wait times.
AccuWeather's digital signage content modules include current local weather conditions, hourly and five-day forecasts, regional radar,
video forecasts, pollen and health indices, and weather trivia, plus sports news, U.S. or world news, business news. Many of AccuWeather's
digital signage modules are also available in Spanish.
Digital signage has become an essential element for advertising to captive audiences, but displaying only advertisements can cause viewers
to completely tune out the information. The AccuWeather modules integrate timely and localized information into digital signage playlists
to grab viewer interest.
"Weather is, by its very nature, relevant and dynamic information that draws eyes to the screens again and again. That is why weather consistently
gains top audience ratings in all existing media, and why advertisements integrated with weather information in existing media command premium rates,
"said Dr. Joel N. Myers, Founder and President of AccuWeather. "Now the content that AccuWeather has developed will offer to digital signage
systems the same attractive power of weather."
AccuWeather content will be available to any Omnivex based network managing electronic signage via Omnivex DataPipe software. The types of display
hardware used include plasma displays, LCD panels, video cubes, projectors and full matrix LED boards. Omnivex software is built on Microsoft® Windows®
technology and does not require any proprietary hardware.
"To be effective, communications must relate directly to the audience; accurate real time data can provide relevance to digital communications,"
said Jeff Collard, President of Omnivex Corporation. "Our customers are not restricted to fixed formats, templates or appearance. They can filter
data to suit their needs, build intuitive content or trigger events based on changing conditions. AccuWeather helps us empower our customers with
the tools that they need to effectively deliver their message."
Distribution of AccuWeather content by Omnivex is effective immediately.
