Omnivex User Training Program (Moxie)

The Omnivex Moxie User Training Program provides training for individuals looking to become proficient users of the Moxie suite of software products. Through an extensive two-day course, including a variety of practical exercises, participants learn how to design and implement typical software solutions which are powered by the latest in Omnivex technology. The course covers more advanced features of the software on the second day of training.

Prerequisites

Students must have a good working knowledge of Windows based applications. An understanding of graphic design applications such as Adobe PhotoShop, Flash or Illustrator is beneficial but not required.

All participants must bring a laptop computer with Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7 to the session. Participants need an Administrator-level User account on that laptop computer in order to install the necessary applications for the training.

Program overview

Day 1

Module 1: Introduction and setup – Introduction to themes that will be common through all modules. In this module you will get set up for the course by setting up a simple network to simulate a real-world Moxie installation.

Module 2: Connecting to data cells to control content in your layout – Use data to control the content in your layout. Learn how to dynamically determine which content to display based on data values.

Module 3: Creating layouts – Introduction to Layout Designer. Learn how to design and create layouts using a variety of graphic elements.

Module 4: Following Moxie workflows – An introduction to all of the Moxie modules; what they are and how to use them. Learn how to organize content files and establish workflow best-practices on the Data Server using workspaces, as well as an introduction to Moxie's Draft, Release and promotion functionality.

Module 5: Customizing your layouts with effects and design tools – Customize content using effects and features. Learn how to use Moxie's advanced effects on content in real time as well as many other content manipulation tools and techniques.

Module 6: Creating playlists – Create different types of playlists: time-driven, data-driven and out-of-range. Learn some advanced playlist features including how to copy or link to an existing playlist and add a playlist as content to a layout.

Module 7: Adding content that links to DataPipe cells – Create content that uses real-time data.

Module 8: Sending content to your screens – Schedule content and send it to a Moxie player.

Day 2

Module 9: Day 2 Introduction - Review of Day 1

Module 10: Creating live links to external data with Moxie Data Suite Products – Create links to external data using the Moxie Data Suite products. Learn how to create links from your layouts and playlists to dynamic, external data sources, such as ODBC databases, Outlook calendars, XML files and more.

Module 11: Managing permissions, players, files and logs – Learn about the advanced information management features in Moxie. See how to integrate with Active Directory and LDAP technologies on existing networks to grant access rights to users. Also learn how to manage permissions, remote players, logs and how to import and export workspaces.

Module 12: Synchronizing folders – Learn how to synchronize folders on your network so you can instantly and automatically match folder content and even update live content on your players.

Module 13: Scripting in Moxie – Add scripts to Moxie using IronPython. Learn how to extend Moxie's functionality to accommodate any installation's unique requirements.

Module 14: Introduction to “smart” content – Learn what metadata is and how to use it to automatically manage content and playlists. Learn how to use Actions and Events to make your content respond to external conditions.

Module 15: Adding metadata to playlist elements for future – Extend your new knowledge of metadata tags to add another layer of control to content elements and create automated playlists in your signage system.

Module 16: Building playback rules to add conditions to your playlist – Build smart playlists by defining conditional rules which interact with metadata tags to determine and control when, where and which elements of a playlist are displayed.

Module 17: Adding automatic actions to layouts and playlists – Use Actions and Events to trigger the display of content. Learn how actions work by creating Started and Ended actions based on a content item's timeline. Review all of the materials covered and the applications in the design solutions.
