KB127: When your design plays on your screen, it appears distorted

Symptom

Your design file appears distorted when it plays on your screen.

Cause

The design is set to a different resolution than the screen. This can be caused by:

  1. The device running in a non-native resolution.
  2. The resolution assigned to the Device in Display Director does not match the resolution of the design being displaye on a Player.

Solution

In order for the content to play on the screen without being distorted, the screen needs to be running at its native resolution and the resolution assigned to the Device must match the resolution of the content.

To match the native resolution of the screen to the content:

  1. Check the display devices owner manual or the manufacturer's Website for the native resolution of the screen. Note this information. Typically it is presented like 1024 x 768 or 1920 x 1200.
  2. Ensure that the display is running at the native resolution:
    1. From the Player computer, click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
    2. Double-click Display. The Display Properties dialog box appears.
    3. Click the Settings tab.
    4. In Screen resolution, set the resolution value to the native resolution of the display.
    5. Click OK.
  3. Check the resolution assigned to a Device:
    1. From Display Director, click
    2. In the Devices list, locate the Device associated with the displaying content.
    3. Check the width and height settings of the Device,
    4. If the width and height settings do not match the native resolution of the screen, change them by typing new values into the width and height columns.
  4. Check the resolution of your content:
    1. From Display Director, click
    2. Browse to find the DSP file that is displaying incorrectly.
    3. In the bottom left corner of the Display window, confirm the resolution of the DSP file.
  5. Compare the native resolution of the display, the resolution assigned to the Device and the resolution of the content; ensure they are all the same. If the resolution of the DSP does not match the resolution of the Device and the screen, create a new DSP file at the correct resolution and add content to it.
