Hardware requirements for Omnivex TickerDisplay and DataDisplay
Due to the complex nature of Omnivex display management software, there are many factors that can affect system performance. Determining appropriate system requirements for Omnivex display management software can be difficult, but there are several recommended hardware components and configurations.
Typically, data management software is much less demanding than content management software. The minimum hardware specification is usually sufficient for running data management software. Note that display systems tend to increase in complexity as users become more experienced with the software and the display network matures. As a result, we recommend exceeding the minimum hardware requirements so that content you develop in the future can still be accommodated by your hardware.
Recommended computer specifications
These computer configurations are intended to provide a minimum recommendation for a typical system, based on our experience.
Typically, we recommend pre-configured models from well-known computer manufacturers, but a well-built custom computer that meets the requirements can also be used.

TickerDisplay and DataDisplay applications are built for the Win32 environment are supported on Microsoft Windows 2000 and 2003.
If you are running TickerDisplay or DataDisplay on your PC, you need to run a workstation or computer with desktop class components. See KB 309 for more details on supported operating systems.
Typically, Omnivex TickerDisplay and DataDisplay require low levels of processing power.
The amount of RAM required for running TickerDisplay or DataDisplay is determined by the operating system, not the applications.
Integrated video or any graphics processor or expansion card is sufficient for TickerDisplay and DataDisplay.
Omnivex software is hardware independent and it functions properly with any display adapter.
The amount of hard drive space required for running Omnivex applications is determined by the operating system, not the applications. For example, current versions of Windows take between 1 and 10 GB of storage space while Omnivex applications take anywhere from a few MB to a few hundred MB for installation.
Typically, you should have at least 1.5 times the RAM in free hard drive space. For example, a PC with 2 GB of RAM should have at least 3 GB of free space on the hard drive.
Typically, the best way for you to control your display devices is to use one port for each device, rather than using a daisy-chain arrangement. This means that your PC must have an available serial port for each display device you want to control from that computer.
Most computers come with one or two serial ports but you can add ports by using a USB to serial port device in a one, two, four or eight port configuration.
