KB307: You want to know what the changes are to logging in Moxie 6.10

Summary

When upgrading from an older version of Moxie to 6.10, there are several changes to logging that should be noted:

  • There is a Moxie Log Server component to install and configure
  • There is no longer a Log Viewer module
  • Moxie Player has a Client Logging Agent
  • MS SQL is required to store your log files

There is a Moxie Log Server component to install and configure

When you install version 6.10 of Moxie there is a new component, the Moxie Log Server, which you can install and configure. This component can be installed on any computer in your Moxie network; it does not need to be the same computer as the Moxie Data Server.

Note: It is not necessary to install the Log Server in order for Moxie to function. You only need to install the logging component if you are planning to use the Proof-of-Play feature.

There is no longer a Log Viewer module

The Log Viewer module is no longer included as part of Moxie Studio. It has been replaced by the Log Server and the Proof-of-Play option in the Player Manager module.

Using the Proof-of-Play in the Player Manager module opens a lower pane in the Player View, displaying content log statistics for the computer on which the selected Player is running.

Moxie Player has a Client Logging Agent

Moxie Player now has a Client Logging Agent that runs as a service on any Player computer. The Client Logging Agent sends log data to the Log Server when Proof-of-Play has been activated in the Player Manager module.

Note: The Client Logging Agent is also installed on any computer that has a Moxie Script Engine installed.

Microsoft SQL Server is required to store your log files

In order for the Log Server to store your log files, you must have the full version of Microsoft SQL Server version 2008 R2 or higher installed on a computer to which the Log Server can connect.

Additional information

For more information on installing and configuring the Log Server, see the Moxie Installation Guide. For more information on Proof-of-Play in the Player Manager module, see the User Guide for Player Manager.
