KB181: Typical Moxie network configuration

Summary

A typical Omnivex Moxie network is set up on three or more PCs, although all of the applications can be installed and run on a single PC or each on a different PC. Omnivex software can be divided into three general categories:

  • Studio software
  • Server software
  • Player software

Typically, each category of application is installed on a different PC on the network.

The Studio PC is the PC on which Moxie Studio with Layout Designer, Schedule Builder and Player Manager and Control Director are installed.

  • Moxie Studio is the interface you use to create and schedule content for your devices:
    • From Layout Designer, create your content
    • From Schedule Builder, schedule when you want your content to play
    • From Player Manager, assign your schedules to your Moxie Players
  • Control Director is the interface you use to serially control the settings for each display device

The Data Server PC is the PC on which the Moxie Data Server, DataPipe Server and Control Server are installed as well as any other applications that contribute data to the DataPipe Server content.

  • Moxie Data Server is the central repository for your Moxie data. It sends data to all of your Moxie Studios and Moxie Players, and interfaces with DataPipe Server as a client application to share data on your Moxie network.
  • DataPipe Server sends updated information to all the DataPipe clients, so that all the PCs on your network can share the same information at the same time.
  • Data contributors feed data into the DataPipe Server, updating the data. The contributors can include applications such as:
    • SQLLink
    • XMLLink
  • Control Server transfers the device command settings data from Control Director to the Control Player.

The Player PC is the PC on which the Moxie Player and Control Player are installed and to which your devices are connected.

  • Moxie Player:
    • Receives content to display from your Player Manager, then shows the content on the attached display device
    • Receives data from the Data Server, which can cause changes in displayed content
  • Control Player:
    • Delivers the operating settings to each device
    • Sends device settings feedback to Control Server

The following is a diagram of a typical Omnivex Moxie network setup.
